If you were to look up the words grit, resilience, and perseverance, you’d find a perfect definition in Alicia. A proud student at NewBridge Cleveland and a dedicated mother, Alicia has long dreamed of a career in healthcare. Life, however, hasn’t made that dream easy. Despite the obstacles, she never gave up hope. She always believed her moment would come—she just didn’t know when or how. Thanks to the Huntington Foundation scholarship, that moment is finally here. Her passion for healthcare comes from deeply personal experiences. As a young caretaker for her mother during serious health challenges, Alicia learned to advocate, comfort, and care. Now, she’s also fueled by a second powerful motivator: her 10-year-old son. Everything she does is with him in mind, working toward a brighter, more stable future for them both. After graduation, Alicia looks forward to working as a phlebotomist in a hospital setting, where she can directly impact patients’ lives. But her journey doesn’t stop there—she plans to return to school and continue the path toward becoming a nurse.
